MYRRH – ‘Hymns’ C32
MyrrhSince this cassette has consistently flown out the door in record time, and in preparation for an upcoming Trans-European tour later in 2013, this album is now available again in a fresh pressing of 100 copies. Sludge-mystics trigger involuntary trance-mode. Myrrh is the power trio of Jackie Beckey (of Brute Heart), Andie Mazorol (Mother Of Fire, Visitor) and Jason Millard (Lighted). They have made a name for themselves around Minneapolis with their epic and minimal form of instrumental doom pummel, but the instrumentation itself also sets this group apart. Viola, Lap Steel, Electronics and Drums weave together to form what could possibly be the heaviest folk music ever made. There is an air filled sense of space throughout these recordings, while still providing detailed crunch and clarity to the goings on. Sweeping strings and percussive plucking folded over sliding fuzz and tone-crackle, backed by enormous crushing rhythm. Restrained yet unbelievably massive. Masterfully recorded by Jason Misik to 1” tape, and beautifully mixed by John Marks (Art of This), “Hymns” comes as a very powerful follow up to their excellent debut album, recently re-released on vinyl from Soft Abuse. Where that self-titled LP captures them in a snapshot from the past, these more recent recordings vividly portrays them in their current trio formation. Professionally duplicated black shell chrome Type II cassette with silver ink imprint comes packaged with a double-sided glossy cardstock J-card featuring original black and white photography by Andie Mazorol in a clear and black Norelco case. Dramatic and drifting psychedelic doom anthems for tomorrow’s sweat soaked soirée.

imagePhilip Corner is an American composer and founding member of the Fluxus movement whose music over the last 50 years has explored the areas of minimalism, chance operations, graphic notation, gamelan and unintentional sound. As a student during the late ‘50s, Corner studied under Henry Cowell and Olivier Messiaen before becoming part of the burgeoning era of post war composers of which John Cage, Richard Maxfield, James Tenney and Malcolm Goldstein would all become close colleagues. Phoebe Neville is an award-winning dancer and choreographer who was an active participant in the New York avant garde community of the ‘60s and ‘70s. She is best known for performing with the Judson Dance Theater as well as for leading her own company. She has since gone onto perform in group and solo performances around the world. For the past two decades she has often collaborated with Corner on performances that incorporate his music set to her dance performances. The raw lo-fi recordings contained within this set have been culled from Corner’s archive and span a period of nearly fifteen years and find the duo performing around the world utilizing a variety of improvisational techniques including resonant metals, feedback loops and incidental sounds. PURR 0024: Floating Gardens – ‘Generalife’
Taken high beyond the normal scenery, outdoor programming cultivates life aboard the in-plane, flexural, and geometric gridpax that has become the new unsequenced way of living. Motioning keyboard fingers show the way.

PURR 0025: Emuul – ‘Free Structures: What We Thought When We Thought The World Was Shifting Under Our Feet’
Like a spinning ribbon, powered by the present shapes with side sky moving existence struggling. The reality around us is what is heard and the stories passed on with the present is all I know and that I am pleased.

PURR 0026: Günter Schlienz – ‘Organ Studies’
The night sky blossoms with beams distant, familiar-arcing between islanded hubs. Fleeting bridges form and resonate hope with memories of hope. Silence made nocturnal shuttering.

PURR 0027: Giant Claw – ‘Music for Film’
All that remains on the sun purged top layer is the sprawling city of industry. The machines heave against the sun – shadows of pirouetting cogs, skipping pistons, and graceful automatons flaunt a defiant ballet of life under the hellish gaze of the sun.

The Revenant Sea – ‘Self-titled’ $8 C46
revsmallChrome Cassette; Ltd. Edition (50). The Revenant Sea is the alter ego of Matt Bower (Wizards Tell Lies). The Revenant Sea’s self titled debut elaborates on ideas Bower seeded on Wizards Tell Lies’ “The Failed Silence” (First Fold Records, 2012). With this release the listener is led on a voyage through dark, ambient soundscapes that evoke sci-fi nightmares and long forgotten ghost ships on troubled black oceans. The Revenant Sea conjures hostile alien invasions, amoral extra terrestrial human gene experiments, earthly psychic attacks and the chattering voices of ghosts in the telegraph, distorted lost transmissions from a fading human race. Weaved of intricate aural tapestries and complex sonic spectrums The Revenant Sea is a haunting, beautiful and inter-dimensional work worthy of deep exploration. This is music for deep space and floatation tanks.

various – ‘Smashed 40: Slummer Jams‘ 2CS
Screen shot 2013-02-18 at 6.41.38 PMIt’s no secret that people judge you based on what kind of music you like and more than likely there is a band or performer who you like that you don’t feel comfortable admitting without first giving a disclaimer like: “guilty pleasure”. Music that too many people like isn’t cool to listen to. We might be missing something but we fail to see the logic in that. Music should be something you enjoy, not something you’re ashamed of. Furthermore, it’s undeniable that “main stream” music has influenced musicians of all styles in one form or another. So we decided to ask some of our favorite artists to record their take on the “main stream” and what we got was an epic collection of songs that are both eclectic and absurd. This compilation contains 40 artists doing their interpretations of Top 40 hits, clocking in at nearly two and a half hours in length. The artists on this compilation are (alphabetically): Alvarius B., American Gil, Amps For Christ, Anni Rossi, Brother Mitya feat. Alak, Brother Twin, Captain Ahab, Carla Bozulich and Former Ghosts, Charlie Mcalister, Clark 8, Dennis Callaci, Dino Dimuro feat. Elizabeth Dimuro, Edward Gray, Emily Lacy, Ezra Buchla, The Finches, Gulliver, Hermit Convention, I.E., John Thill, Key Losers, Knight Rider, Lonnie Methe, Marmits, Nicole Kidman, Pregnant, R. Stevie Moore, The Receptionists, Rollin Hunt, Sam Locke Ward and The Garbage Boys, Simon Joyner, sIngs, Stellaluna, Stephen Steinbrink, ThunderSnail, tik///tik, Treasure Mammal, Voice On Tape, Wckr Spgt, Whitman. Released on two professionally dubbed and imprinted cassettes, housed in clear cassette albums with full color artwork by Brian Blomerth. Includes digital download card. Limited to 300 copies.
