Adderall Canyonly – ‘From Below We Reach Above’ C28 $7.5(USA)/$11.5(Can)/$14.5(World)
Adderall Canyonly - From Below We Reach Above smallThe mind behind the Field Hymns label and Tiny Little Hammers design, Portland’s Dylan McConnell releases psychedelic soundscapes under the name Adderall Canyonly. ‘From Below We Reach Above’ finds McConnell straddling a wondrous line between musical beauty and hazy abstraction. Combining synth and guitar in almost equal measures, each track soars and shimmers in its own distinct way, occasionally veering into darker territory or combining with elements of noise to keep you on your toes and help you fully drift away. Pro-dubbed and imprinted chrome cassettes, featuring designs by Caroline Teagle. Edition of 100.

Bedroom – ‘Trans’ C40 $7.5(USA)/$11.5(Can)/$14.5(World)
Bedroom - Trans smallOn his third release for the label, Michael Chau continues to expand Bedroom’s horizon and introduce new elements to his sonic palate. The sky-high, dreamy vibrations from previous releases are still ever present, but now drum machines deliver infectious grooves and motorik rhythms. Chau has an excellent ear for melody, causing gauzy drones and laser-sharp arpeggios to stick with you long after the sounds have faded away. Perfect for early morning drives or late night walks, tap in and let this one soundtrack your next journey through life’s superhighway. Pro-dubbed and imprinted chrome cassettes, featuring designs by Caroline Teagle. Edition of 100.

Afterlife – ‘Surfacing Illusions’ C54 $7.5(USA)/$11.5(Can)/$14.5(World)
Afterlife - Surfacing Illusions smallThe first full release since the debut Afterlife LP, ‘Surfacing Illusions’ finds Ryan McGill and Franklin Teagle diving deeper intro dream states and unknown places than ever before. Built around sounds captured nearby, far away, and even long ago, the duo layers field recordings carefully with dueling synths to take the listener on a journey that’s altogether stranger and more varied than any previous releases. From glorious harmonies suited for a cathedral to quiet, uneasy trips into a dissonant void, there’s plenty to get lost in this time around. Pro-dubbed and imprinted chrome cassettes, featuring designs by Caroline Teagle. Edition of 100.

Jean-Sébastien Truchy – ‘L’amitié’ C60 $7.5(USA)/$11.5(Can)/$14.5(World)
Jean-Sebastian Truchy - L'amitie smallFrom his work with previous groups such Fly Pan Am to his impeccable label Los Discos Enfantasmes, Jean-Sébastien Truchy has long been a staple of the experimental music scene in Montreal. His recent solo recordings under his own name are at once remarkably challenging and engrossing. ‘L’amitié’, his lengthiest release to date, continues that line with a brilliant mix of heavy modular synthesis, vocals, and field recordings. Sparse nature sounds, buzzing synth blasts, and sequenced melodies set the stage for Truchy’s incredible vocals, which range from full-on black metal screaming to almost operatic singing. There are elements of pop, musique concrète, and more, but this is truly genre-defying music in every sense of the term. Pro-dubbed and imprinted chrome cassettes, featuring designs by Caroline Teagle. Edition of 100.

Hospital Productions

FFH – ‘make them understand’ LP
American revisionist power electronics. First full length LP. Edition of 114 with booklet.

DEATHPILE – ‘g.r.’ LP
From 1995 to 2004 Jonathan Canady led the classic american power electronics band Deathpile, which culminated in the 2003 release of G.R., the band’s final album. Co-released by Force of Nature Productions and Hospital Productions, the album instantly set a new benchmark in extreme music, providing a fully realized, investigative, confrontational intensity, while exploring the perspective of the perpetrator, in this case one Gary Ridgway. Longtime industrial and experimental musician David E. Williams provides masterful analogue synth work alongside Canady’s devastating vocal performance, which stands as one of the most powerful in all of extreme music’s history, a testament to controlled chaos and full immersion into the most challenging of subject matters. Canady’s dynamic artistic contributions have included time at Relapse Records as art director, releasing albums as Dead World on Nuclear Blast, Relapse and Release, exhibiting internationally as a visual artist, as well as operating the Malsonus label, responsible for 1999’s definitive ” The Sound of Sadism” compilation, among others. Ten years on, G.R.’s cultural influence is felt in print, covered in “Gathering of the Tribe: Music and Heavy Conscious Creation” by Mark Goodall, and sonically, as one of the high marks in all of american power electronics. Mastered by Scott Hull of Pig Destroyer, Deathpile’s G.R. is now made available for the first time on vinyl in an edition of 500.

Step Pepper

Balcony View – ‘Wanderer’
balconyviewWanderer is the debut EP by Balcony View, the newest artist from Step Pepper. It’s a beautiful, soaring album of minimal guitar drone, a truly meditative experience you can listen to again and again. The Wanderer EP also marks our first official cassette release. Get ‘em while supplies last! From the artist: “Balcony View originated as a name that I felt would describe my music, the image of being high up on a balcony overlooking a vast, peaceful, natural scene that changes slowly as the day progresses was one I felt suited the themes I often try to aim for. I created it mainly to see the extent of what I could do sonically with the guitar in standard tuning. The album itself is not necessarily about any particular thing. I mainly aimed to unify a series of calm and peaceful themes and blend together a plethora of different guitar sounds.”

Faux-Pas

FAX 039: (D)(B)(H) – ‘Masterpieces of Objective Reporting’ LP $12(US)/$22(WORLD)
A full length LP featuring two side long cuts by this ever-changing ensemble. Pressed in an edition of 210 copies on thick vinyl. Cover art by John McCormick spray painted & screen printed onto recycled jackets, some brown and others white. Recorded in a 19th century log cabin in Southern Indiana, these recordings as a quartet showcase the group in their most patient and cohesive display to date… Eavesdropped upon as soft talkers finish each others sentences, a silhouette of sound passes through the room. Spittle and scrapes coalesce into a single vessel of subtlety as thin fingers course along your scalp. Slowly dragged – into and through an alien terrain in a dream state of heightened awareness. Small motors, distant whirling tones and a vibrating necklace; under the influence of being under the water. File under: lowercase, non-idiomatic improv, deep listening.

FAX 038: Robert Ridley-Shackleton – ‘E. Jack’ C30 $7(US)/$9(WORLD)
With previous releases on Goaty Tapes and Feeding Tube Records, Britain’s boy toy brings 30 manic minutes of lustful vocal loops, creating his own brand of Prince-style sexiness. More pop than not, and just a little bit tender (song titles like “Don’t Torture Me”, “Somewhere Better”, “Just 1 Teardrop”), you’re bound to make a mess in at least one article of clothing. Edition of 50.

FAX 037: The Fribbles – ‘Meet the Fribbles’ C20
“That was great, guys, like Vietnam” -Nick Williams (One Kind Favor) Described by Byron Coley as “ice cream rock”, the collaboration of Anthro Rex (internet famous alcoholic) and Sam Gas Can (hot dog-eating, South Park-watching cretin) is the product of two dudes with no interest in practicing and a severe passion for milkshakes. Dumb drumming, vocal freakouts, and a Kate Bush cover here and there. Recorded live at home in Northampton, MA. Edition of 50.

FAX 036: Tracey Trance – ‘Pyper Kub’ LP $18(US)/$28(WORLD)
In today’s world of “internet presence,” the music of Tracey Trance is as “real people” as it gets. When Tracey (AKA Tyler, longtime resident of Hangtown, USA) does happen to get on a computer, it’s only to spin rainbow colored poetry to a friend or figure out the next spot he’s gonna park his truck. Although he’s been granted releases on such taste making labels as Not Not Fun and Night People, he’s turned in lo-fi home recordings that are difficult to pin down in any one time, place or genre. Pyper Kub is his debut long playing vinyl and it is a startling and heartfelt departure from the hypnagogic keyboard recordings that many have enjoyed over the last few years. This is a song based record, focusing mainly on guitar, bass and vocals. There’s a little Slang Tang, some serious wah-wah, a dollop of Joe Walsh circa But Seriously, Folks… and there’s a lot of Tyler’s odd, elfish spirit. A collection of road songs that play out in some sort 70s mirror universe. My favorite finds our hero contemplating the fine line between freedom and imprisonment while a K-9 unit searches his truck. This record has a way of growing on you, and I’ve played my copy of the original ultra-limited cassette release countless times. Nifty vinyl co-release with Trd W/d, Hot Releases, Feeding Tube Records, One Kind Favor, L’animaux Tryst & Canada Goose Tapes. One time edition of 700 copies on cream colored vinyl.

Philip Marshall-FRAG25-100pxThe first cassette work for Fragment Factory by UK-born Philip Marshall, sound and digital media artist, close collaborator of the Touch/Ash International network, one third of 3-33.me (because 4:33 is so last century) and curator of the exquisite Tapeworm label and publishing house since 2009. [FRAG26] AARON DILLOWAY & TOM SMITH – ‘Allein Zu Zweit’ C48 6€
DillowaySmith-FRAG26-100pxA documentation of a most memorable event, held at FSK Hamburg in summer of 2012. 2 full sets, approximately 20 minutes each. At first Dilloway solo, followed by a remarkable super duet with Smith, who appeared out of the blue that night, suddenly finding himself on the non existent stage next to Dillo! Ohio based Aaron Dilloway runs the influential Hanson label since 1994 and was a member of Wolf Eyes when they blew up the noise scene in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. He’s been part of a vast number of projects and collaborations ever since, The Nevari Butchers, Spine Scavenger, The Beast People or Violent Ramp, just to name a few. US refugee Tom Smith has been a core member of the notoriuos To Live And Shave In L.A., played with Pussy Galore in the 80’s and has been a part of Ohne alongside of Reto Mäder, Dave Phillips and Daniel Löwenbrück. His ongoing collaborations with Kevin Drumm are semi-legendary, to say the least. Smith is currently living in Hannover, Germany.

MCMC130225: Inhibitionists/Ragged Lines – ‘Torch Passin’ Burners/Festive Suggestion’ C22
Indeed, a passing of the torch – while the long-running Inhibitionists project at least hibernates, Ragged Lines rages on in its place. On offer: two brief sides of bleary-eyed derelict IDM, creepshow soft-synths, and harsh beat-motifs buried in a sweet headphone mix mire. Things range from “impenetrable” to “virtually accessible.” On home dubbed cassettes in an edition of 10.

MCMC130226: Pacific Mausoleum/Ragged Lines – ‘Rebound Control/Accountability Vibe’ C22
As with Inhibitionists, this, too, marks possibly the final audio appearance of Pacific Mausoleum. But, once more, fear not (necessarily), as “The Maus” – presenting decidedly sophisticated missives here – lives on as Ragged Lines. Short-form bangers and lucid mind flower arrangements, similar (not surprisingly) to its brother release. On home dubbed cassettes in an edition of 10.

MCMC130227: Sunny Dunes – ‘Village Global’ C32
We are, hereby, thrilled to finally be able to satisfy and/or introduce more ears, hands, minds, etc., with/to the mesmeric loop-worlds of Micka Perez’s Sunny Dunes (see also: Sylvia Monnier.) Originally a 2011 self released digital album/EP, the “Village Global” cassette consists of four minimal-gaze epics, built on heavenly hypnotic harmonic repetition, abstract synthesis/jungle photosynthesis, and cavernous Kosmische swirls. Hauntingly beautiful, beautifully haunting. Pro duplicated yellow tapes, in an edition of 52.

MCMC130228: Asio Otus – ‘Otus, Asio. Cross Cultural Observations of Sounds Induced by Religious Practices in Human Hearing Range.’ C46
On the heels of the significantly well received “Taivaallisia Tulia,” comes this fascinating new rugged reportage from (y)our favourite nocturnal Finnish world travellers, Asio Otus. The outer bounds of organic electronica and folkloric mystère are juxtaposed once again, heavily focused on field recordings from Nepal and Ghana. An ethnomusicological fever dream is spun. More looping and droning than previously, with sinister devotional sandstorm-ambient mangling and off-kilter jam-crafting abounds. Pro duplicated white tapes, in an edition of 52.

Sound of Cobra

In Zaire – ‘White Sun Black Sun’ LP
in zaire x webAt first it may seem like a sonic foray into well known territory: a guitar, drums and bass driven ride into psychedelic landscapes – colorful and mind-expanding. And if you’re looking for some lysergic adventures this is your ticket! But even though “White Sun Black Sun” is obviously and deeply rooted in the ongoing history of electrified rock-n-roll-to-blow-your-head-off (i.e. from Ash Ra Temple and Hawkwind to Up-Tight) In Zaire reach way beyond this admirable approach and successfully aim for more. The music’s taking cues from electric Blues, the aforementioned LSD-drenched Psychedelia, high-octane Japrock and edgy Post-Punk – there’s even some Funk thrown in for good measurement. So, turn it on and tune in and find yourself immersed in a universe of sound that consists of bizarre tones and beautiful noises circling around like planets – each one unique, different and magnificent. The album comes out in an edition of 500 copies 180 gr. LP. 100 of which green colored. In collaboration with the italian labels TANNEN RECORDS and OFFSET.

ESC.rec.

Ifang – ‘Delusion’
“The Delusion EP is the debut of Ifang, a 17 year old producer from Nijmegen. This actually started out as a school project, but soon grew out to be so much more than that, making it a vessel for the discovery of his own talent and passion for music production. He is now determined to pursue a career in music, which is probably a wise decision, because this is a high quality, well produced debut. The three tracks feature warm and crispy electronics, guitar, processed field recordings and (movie) samples. Delusion is a diamond in the rough, triggering Esc.rec. to support Ifang on his journey to higher grounds. Eyes peeled for more Ifang in the future. Delusion is available as a pay-what-you-want download, but also in a very limited CD-r edition. The CD-r release comes in a digipak with hand-painted artwork (Indian ink) by Ifang’s father, Peter Bremer. Only 50 of these were made and they are all different, so be quick to order if you want one!”

Plastic Surgery Icon – ‘Roughly Human’
“Roughly Human is the title of the debut album by Plastic Surgery Icon, for which he spent the last three months of 2012 recording non-stop. The idea was initially to record some basic acoustic guitar songs that he had lying around for years, maybe for the release of a short EP, but additional new songs appeared quickly. To three of the four old songs, vocals were added, along with other instruments. Three of the new songs were more math rock oriented. In the end there was an album’s worth of material that turned out mostly acoustic, but stylistically varying between folky singer/songwriter pieces, some catchy pop tunes and gradually escalating mathy madness. Influences include Sun Kil Moon, Deerhoof, Super Adventure Club, Animal Collective, Spoelstra, Lisa, Amy en Shelley, hipster haircuts, cats and internet messageboard spambots. Since the iconic ambassador of plastic surgery only had knowledge of a computer programme that hadn’t been updated since 2002 he decided to use that. After recording, he got in contact with Greg Saunier ofDeerhoof fame, who was friendly enough to master it and make it sound vivid and punchy. Plastic Surgery Icon used to play in Dutch noise rock band Boutros Bubba and still plays in Amsterdam based garage band Apneu.”

NEW 8.0
“N.E.W. (Nieuwe Electronische Waar) is a platform and network for producers in Gelderland and Overijssel. Every year N.E.W. releases a new album with twelve tracks from producers they will feature prominently for the coming year. Generation NEW 8.0 consists of Alias Lou, Julien Mier, GameFace, Kalima, Knarsetand, Knotted Sheets, MSNTHRPX, Near Earth Object, Raymon Brugman, Sinewave77, Sam A La Bamalot + Asterisms, and Yoeri. In their music you can hear the influence of everything that is happening in electronic music at the moment. The dominance of the four to the floor time is long past, and influences are drawn from ambient, acid, dubstep, future garage, glitch, juke, and trap. Sam a la Bamalot and Kalima (formerly known as Radion) are represented with a track for the third consecutive year. Knarsetand, Near Earth Object, and Yoeri made their debut last year, and made strong follow ups. With eight new names a lot of new talent from across the eastern Netherlands is discovered. A professional jury made a choice from over a hundred entries to come to this selection of twelve tracks. The jury included amongst others other Erik Delobel, programmer of Hedon in Zwolle, and Harco Rutgers, owner of the record label Esc.rec.”
