Nathan McLaughlin – ‘Riding the Bronc’ C64
NAC_JcardTemplate_5-PanelNathan McLaughlin is a busy man. Having released numerous tapes and LPs over the last few years under his own name and as a member of the groups: Tilth, Loud & Sad, and HMS. Solo, McLaughlin is best known for his Echolocation series, showcasing his improvisational work with tape loops. Through Echolocation and subsequent work, McLaughlin continues to create beautiful pieces of ambience that are at times fragile, subtle and quiet. Riding the Bronc is the latest release of tape music from McLaughlin. Displaying a talent for focus and patience. The title of this cassette is a reference to McLaughlin’s live sets, which are filled with an underlying sense of the ominous. In his own words: “they tend to be very intense high frequency affairs…lots of tension, riding the bronco as i like to call it, and not of great volume….recreating that can potentially be hard because the tension is a product of the environment and mood.” Professionally duped on Chrome tapes and professionally printed. Edition of 100.

Nerve Net Noise – ‘Magnetic Breath’
Japanese three-legged race by Tagomago (mix, effects) and Kumax (homemade synthesizer, sax). Nerve Net Noise are known for their fascinating broken rhythm patterns for oscillators, featured on releases by Intransitive and Staalplaat. On Magnetic Breath, they balance the electronic sounds with the inclusion of alto saxophone for the first time. Elliptical orbits and splintering reeds. Edition of 100.

Christopher DeLaurenti – ‘Phonopolis: Urban Field Recordings vol. 1’
Exploring Seattle, Chicago, Montreal, and New York with a microphone and an open ear, DeLaurenti records poetic confluences of ambient sounds, music, speech, and human activity. These unedited documents of aural dérive capture hand-cranked phonographs, thrumming office buildings, an army of flutes, Hong Kong supermarket bustle, and a battle between competing rave tents. Edition of 60.

Matt Shoemaker – ‘The Late Day Spectrum’
Fans will recognize his deep collages of layered field recordings and modular synthesis from releases on Elevator Bath, Mystery Sea, Trente Oiseaux and The Helen Scarsdale Agency. What they won’t expect is the overt beauty of “Eclipse”, swelling clusters of strings that evolve from pastoral to a more ambiguous filigree. Descend the spectrum of fading daylight into “Sleep Maze”, where we explore netherworld forests and moonlit coasts. Superlative work by Shoemaker, evoking saturated Pacific Northwest evenings and tangled internal geographies. Edition of 100.

NOVELLER – ‘No Dreams’ CD
Sarah Lipstate is Noveller and No Dreams, her 6th full-length release, welcomes in an era of expanded instrumentation for the Brooklyn-based guitarist and composer. Acclaimed for her previous guitar-only albums, Lipstate tightens her grasp on her title of “An Orchestra of One” while boldly exploring the sonic possibilities of supplementing her signature lush, loop-based guitar soundscapes with textural washes of synth, haunting piano, and pulsing throbs of electronic beats.

ALESSANDRO CORTINI – ‘Forse 2’ 2LP
Alessandro Cortini’s second release in his Forse trilogy is full of thick analog brightness and deep analog warmth. Despite also being fully composed on a Buchla Music Easel, the feeling of Forse 2 is quite different from Forse 1 and this deluxe double vinyl release is the ultimate way to experience this engaging work.

NNA061: Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier – ‘Those Vermillion Sands’ C34
NNA061b-1A brand new offering of bristling electronic vignettes from French sound and visual artist Félicia Atkinson. “Those Vermillion Sands” is largely based around Atkinson’s hypnotic vocal work accompanied by tense and skillfully-layered electronics. Massive blocks of throbbing buzz and distortion swerve in and out of rhythm, shifting and unfolding at their own volition against other more organic sound environments. A contrasting soft, pulsing low end purrs along throughout in complex patterns and tones, creating inventive dynamics that burn down slowly into a smoldering, white-hot ember. Plodding, sludgy percussion comes in to establish a ritualistic tone and carry the sound further into deeper territory. Above all else hovers vocal mantras, where delicate French and English spoken word dances with repetitive singing chants, creating layers of abstract narrative and an air of premonition. Melody is used sparingly throughout the recording, acting as a torch in the darkness. It guides the listener along, until the closing title track which ends the journey on a more uplifting note, with bright keyboard lines shining through and casting light into the shadowy corners. All of these elements come together tastefully to captivate the listener, suspending both space and time around them in a tantalizing web of electronics and voice.

CHALAQUE – ‘augustus ‘s stealie’ C40
OhhhOhh, here is some serious psychedelia directly from Albyon!! Chalaque is the solo project of Nick Mitchell (Desmadrados Soldatos de Ventura, Float Riverer), joined (once again) by Pascal Nichols (Part Wild Horses Mane on Both Sides) on drums. This is a one-sided tape which features an almost-20 minutes single track, Nick’s gentle and thunderous guitar being embroidered by garage-like drums, bells and other strange sounds: it tastes like that kind of heavy prog psychedelia made by High Rise and similar glorious bands in the late ’80… Great stuff! Edition of 50 copies , pink tape with tiny green bag + insert. FEW COPIES LEFT …don’t miss!

INSTRUMENTS VIVANTS s/t C40
Once again, another collaboration with some other musicians… I V is a trio comprising of me, Simone and Dario… These are a couple of long, twisted and eerie compositions recorded in the countryside with Simone Marzocchi on trumpet, and Dario Boldrini (Imposta Fabbricazione Spiriti, Slaughter Prod.) on laptop and DigiReverb… limited to some 19 copies…

ECLISSE CREMISI s/t CDr
After some years of gestation, my musical collaboration with Riccardo Poli and Mirko Girlando (aka Kranio Strasciolto) has finally taken a more definitive shape. EC’s is a music concerned with cosmic music manipulations – cacophonic lo-fi instruments, pedals and reprocessed voices – and filled with evocative majestic loneliness. Three guys enter their own respective inner self, coalescing it into a communitarian sensation, different sonic developements explode and gather to Earth… 27 copies in a heavy cardboard package + b/w insert. FEW COPIES LEFT …don’t miss!!

SINDRE BJERGA – ‘CAVE SYNCOPATION’ C30
sbsmallMore abstract investigations by SINDRE BJERGA – always keeping one eye on the punisher though! Sit back and (acid) reflux, while scum-coloured waves lap corrosively against your fragile, funghaen ego. Erode like a cheap stone clock while CAVE SYNCOPATION takes its toll. In the winter, it can be difficult to dig holes, because the ground is frozen and hard. Light a fire and then try and dig where the fire was. Microchip locusts squeak and chirp on hyperspeed express trains, LCD cockroaches chant and chatter and brittle sinews of static duck and weave their way between. Give or take, exactly 29 tapes, “Spanish Mirror Mansion” artwork, “Fish Poker” on-tape stickers. British Racist Green.

SINDRE BJERGA + MICROMELANCOLIE – ‘ANAGLYPH #2’ C30
sbmsmallA collaborative release from SINDRE BJERGA and ROBERT SKRZYNSKI combining found sounds, sounds that have been found, and sounds what you might go out and have founded. Also! Wretched feedback, field recordings and dense electronics. A masterfully composed collection of chaotica, both persistent and yielding – a sonic picnic. ANAGLYPH is immersive and disorientating / challenging and disturbing / free and easy – all things to all people and nothing to no one else. Edition of 31 with full colour covers and washed out “tunnel vision” on-tape stickers.

TVE – ‘COLD WAVE’ C30
tvesmallWormhole economics! Slip and slide through fog-drenched swamps of static neuze and white pummel fun. TVE fumbles and fights their way to the surface of the sludge lagoon, winking at lurking pit worms and checking answerphone messages along the way. A dense and tireless foray into the inner workings of inner workings, field recordings from a cluttered outpost, a shimmering salt parade in the autumn twilight. Lose yourself in tubes. COLD WAVE arrives and departs with the same ghoulish gurgle, a heaving juggernaut of paper-thin aspirations and a titanic Southern tribute to everything that’s right about the world. Limited to 34 cassette tapes, hand-painted, with “frozen grassland” purple wrap-around covers.

SLUMP – ‘TOM LAW CORNER’ C30
stlcsmallEchoing and throbbing, undulating lines of screaching metal melody. Swaying and swirling, moon landing, re-staged in a forgotten quarry. Restless car park acoustics, cover versions of automatic can openers. SLUMP shuffles past once more, depositing cracked, coagulations for all to behold. Synthesiser, tapes, radios, responsibilities and regrets are all utilised to hideous effect on a half hour mangle-a-thon that demonstrates and suggests in equal measure. A tape of shutterspeed halucinatons cast into concrete cooling towers. Edition of 12 with “off the telly” front covers, and individually screen-printed cloth pouches stuffed with herbs.

PAM BALL DUO – ‘SOUR PACT’ C30
pbdsmallWhat the age needs is not a genius—it has had geniuses enough, but a martyr, who in order to teach men to obey would himself be obedient unto death. What the age needs is awakening.” Serve with gueuze, enjoy with friends. Wild ale pneumatics apologists. Dinner. Is. Ready. Edition of 30. Thick card.

Plastic Uno (band) – ‘Nu No (wave)’ DL
Uno EP picCelebrate TBR’s 20th release with a free download! Plastic Uno (band) is at their noisiest & most raw with this trio of fire tunes. The EP is conceptually built from a thirty-minute plus electric guitar improv duel between Lt. T. and Uno guest, Geoff Box Canyon (the artist formerly known as “Gary Busdriver”). After recording their improv, the epic was edited and sounds were turned into loops and riffs. Lt. T. then recorded a supreme bass line upon which more sounds were added. Three compositions were thusly created from one. Podcast friend Rusty Martin adds narration too (“Bloat”)! Enjoy this free set and look forward to more music from PU(b) coming soon.
