Less Win – “”GREAT””
Less Win re-release their debut album. One of last year’s finest records is now finally being released digitally. Less Win released their debut album “”GREAT”” in 2012. However, the album was only released on vinyl through the band’s own label Sixxxxx. But the vinyl media has its limitations in today’s digital age where bands usually win new fans through digital music sharing. Therefore, the eminent debut is now being reissued digitally by the Copenhagen based label Pad & Pen Records. “”GREAT”” is a record about ambiguity, confusion, powerlessness, vigilante, overheating, S / M, evil, distortion, joy, death, claustrophobia, illusion, doubt, uniformity, restlessness and sometimes nothingness. The group’s guitarist describes the record in the following way: “In my opinion – it is like the image of someone sitting in an hourglass:
In the beginning, the feeling of having all the time in the world, but quickly the sand begins to seep through his fingers; sinking further down against a claustrophobic little hole, while being able to see clearly through the glass – without being able to do anything.” The music was recorded in the band’s rehearsal room and vocals were done in the toilet. “The idea was not to make a pretentious album but, on the basis of individual songs, let the album create its own thread rather than forcing something down on it.” Out of this environment came a record that may sound like a mixture of industrial Manchester sound with the burgeoning post-punk culture right now coming out of a number of Copenhagen bands. LESS WIN manages, to incorporate awesome riffs and 60s catchyness, and “”GREAT”” appears as an estimate of how something vintage can be performed differently.

BIRDS OF PASSAGE/JE SUIS LE PETIT CHEVALIER/MOTION SICKNESS OF TIME TRAVEL/ALOONALUNA -‘TAXIDERMY OF UNICORNS’ 2xC60
Folk music is expanding into many new forms with experimentalists such as birds of passage, Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier, Motion Sickness of Time Travel and Aloonaluna—all female experimentalists who plant folk notions further into a more hybridized, variegated flora. Whether the terms of music here is ambiguous but personal voice, the electronic as modernist tool for folk-making, or a magic-realist or urban-pastoral perspective—these terms continue to expand in ways that are gaseous; the terrestrial reaching out to more unreachable worlds of dream and space. This is individual and private music speaking to a more collective consciousness. This is Taxidermy of Unicorns—an act of stuffing such a mythical animal, fabricating this beautiful beast as a specimen of all such beasts… Clear chrome plus tapes with black lining. Edition of 200 with accompanying art booklet. Leaves sewn into color insert and wrapped in yarn.

EXHAUSTION – ‘Future Eaters’ LP
Exhaustion is the brainchild of Duncan Blachford. Following a US tour in 2008 he retreated into an isolated bunker and purged bouts of recurring delirium through free form noise in a variety of musical units on his Endless Melt label. Naturally the impulse to form a new band arose and he recruited Jensen Tjhung (Deaf Wish, Lower Plenty) on bass, himself no stranger to blackouts in a hate prism of his own making. With the recruitment of Swedish rhythm machine Per Bystrom (Ooga Boogas), the psychic sluice valves opened – spontaneous music appeared out of air thick with desperation, paranoia and trudging dread. Gigs began quickly and the album you are now listening to was recorded within months of their first, in order to capture the band in its foetal stages. The music is a primal rhythmic surge, with Duncan’s undisciplined guitar roping long and weird in tandem with his demented baying and crooning. Aarght Records presents the debut EXHAUSTION album ‘Future Eaters’ in a limited edition of 250 copies on 12” LP with download card. The band is launching it at The Tote on Saturday 2 March with Beaches, Buck/Baxter (Tony Buck of The Necks) and Eastlink. The perfect way to ruin what’s left of your life.
