This 5 track EP, entitled SARO, is the artist’s first offering as part of a compositional effort best described as Afro-Experimental pop. These compositions aim to discern, deconstruct, and (re)interpret the West African musical tradition and identity within a loosely pop framework. Written and recorded between Lagos and New York, SARO candidly relates (in English and Yoruba) a personal story of heartache, faith, redemption, and the spirit of a journey home.

FH050 Sad Horse – ‘Purple On Purple Makes Purple’
RIYL: early Pavement, Pussy Galore, a controlled sense of fuckall & abandon. On this Cassette Store Day 2014, it brings us great fucking pleasure to release on tape for the first time a favorite record of ours and hopefully a future jammer for you as well. The mighty two-piece of Sad Horse is a mainstay of Portland, Oregon and has been at times compared to “The Stooges on ritalin” and “Sleater-Kinney with a sense of humor” but these are all just words. Buy this album and crank it up.

FH049 Strategy – ‘Cerebral Hut AKA Off The Grid’
RIYL: Table top electronics, the plulsing of liquid circuits, sleepover party with the Daleks. Strategy is not generally known for his ambient work, but the genre provides a window to the many disparate influences marking his talent. This skill-set is showcased in these live manipulations from the Cerebral Hut installation in Los Angeles. These compositions sound like the subdermal whirring of the guts of LA, and provide a fascinating peek into the mind of an artist in his prime

FH048 Portopia ’81 – ‘Stardust Memory’
RIYL: library music, swinging organ, the warm smell of tubes and cigarette smoke. The project Portopia ’81 is named after an expo in Kobe from that year but its heart is more bound to 1961. Mizuhiro’s vision of a space-bound humanity reaching the stars via silver needles and fired though rainbow washes of nebulae is translated though the analog pops of organ drum machines and wedded to the calming voices of vintage synthesizers – a perfect soundtrack to a future that wasn’t.

FH047 Conrad Wedde – ‘Space World’
RIYL: Subtropical meridians, Peter Gabriel’s better moods, a nice stoned dawn. Recorded in a small room in Dunedin, New Zealand, SPACE WORLD encompasses the breadth of the southern hemisphere in its brief span of 27 minutes. The texture of bamboo & the blinding reflection of the setting sun scored like a love scene from an older Michael Mann movie – this is visual audio done at its finest, reminiscent of Eno’s 80’s output but done with heart. One of the finest approximations of our younger summers, high and on the beach, we’ve run across yet.

GR260 Shame, Exposure – ‘Biohazard/Isolation’ C50
For the last 30 years, the work of Paul Steinborn’s Shame, Exposure project has gone almost completely unheard besides a few rare compilation appearances. For the first time since it’s brief and limited distribution by S/M Operations, the first (and only surviving) full length recording is being released again on cassette. Paul Steinborn, along with Skott Rusch and Lon Diehl, were among the early Industrial pioneers out of Port Huron, Michigan in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Rusch and Diehl formed Hunting Lodge and the S/M Operations label, while Steinborn, after a stint playing guitar in a punk band called Problem, started working on Shame, Exposure around 1983. Shame, Exposure performed an unknown (and most likely small) number of shows in the area (often playing with Hunting Lodge) and recorded a wealth of material, only to end the project by 1984 to focus on his day job. His last known recorded appearances are his guitar overdubs on recordings by Hunting Lodge and John North Wright. Though Steinborn’s archives sadly contain no recorded Shame, Exposure material, this tape has been uncovered by fellow Port Huron pioneering alumni Jeff Central, complete with the original artwork. Additionally, this reissue contains a cassette-sized 14 page book with original photography by Steinborn, originally intended for further cassette releases that unfortunately never happened and unseen by anyone but himself until now. Only 30 copies with this booklet are available. Double sided color art and booklet. A remastered CD version featuring additional compilation tracks and alternate art is available through Exoteque Music.

GR279 Screw Machine – ‘Early Works Of Skott Rusch 1981-1982’ 3xCS boxset
Screw Machine was the short lived and little-known first project by Skott Rusch, founding member of Port Huron, MI industrial pioneers Hunting Lodge. Three tapes were recorded and distributed very briefly locally and through the mail, sent to popular industrial artists at the time. In early 1982, Lon Diehl, another local musician interested in challenging and innovative music, heard the tapes, and soon after Hunting Lodge was formed. In the same instance, Screw Machine was terminated. The cassettes – “Mental Block”, “Working With Flesh & Metal”, and “Tattooed Fetus” were forgotten as well. 30+ years later, i’m proud to present, in newly remastered form, 3 cassettes of some of the earliest murky, organic, minimal noise recorded in Michigan. Packaged with two booklets featuring original art, liner notes, and more. Quite graphic imagery inspired by SPK, etc. The historic significance of these tapes cannot be overstated – these recordings helped directly lead to the formation of Hunting Lodge. Brooklyn’s (via Chile) Luciernaga and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico’s La Mancha del Pecado join forces again after their last, and very limited edition. split tape from 2010. Luciernaga is Joao Da Silva, half-owner of Fabrica Records and La Mancha is Miguel Perez who also has hands in Agorafobia Tapes, and musical projects ZN, Colectivo N, Skull Mask, and Wehrmacht Lombardo.
