I Had an Accident

Babelfishh – ‘Writhe In The Ailments’ C20 $7
babelfishhsmallWrithe In the Ailments, a true rager and the latest album by Babelfishh. The type of music to give one a panic attack right from the very beginning, Babelfishh’s off-beat holler and slam sound sees a very harsh reality. As hip hop goes, the trueness to the genre, Babelfishh is furtherest from the center. The album is split in two sides, that harsh booming side filled with Babelfishh’s scream rap style. Side 2 takes on a similar approach yet calms down as much as Babelfishh can in a more introspective look at life. The album is beautiful in its chaos and ripe for any Babelfishh fan. Limited to 100 blue cassettes.

Pastense – ‘Paper Seatbelts’ C64 $7
pastensesmallLong time collaborators Willie Green (Producer – Brooklyn, NY) and Pastense (emcee – Boston, MA) have released Willie Green Presents: Pastense – Paper Seatbelts via Backwoodz Studioz. “This album is definitely a labor of love. It’s taken 5 years, 4 studios and countless revisions, but I’m excited to finally have it out. Production-wise it’s pretty different from most of what you’ve heard from me, and Past has the illest visuals in his lyrics; there’s a lot to dig into here.” -Willie Green. With all production duties handled by Green and features including Super Chron Flight Brothers, The Foundation Movement, Warren Britt, JTronius and more, Pastense has crafted a 14-track view into the darker recesses of his mind. Limited to 105 gray cassettes.

Deathbomb arc

Gaffe of a Lifetime – ‘The Errors: A Kingdom of Loss’
GaffeAlex Petion has spent a decade of his youth inhabiting the relic town of Waterbury, CT. Known as Brass City, its heyday ended alongside WWII. Haunting this long dead town, Petion is a living ghost. His spirited wail and rattling chains manifest as the music of Gaffe of a Lifetime. Sounds not designed to resurrect the long dead, but rather to be a small light searching through a wide expanse of loss. His melodies carry a hope for finding the positive; a hope for finding escape from his world of relics, all while floating in sombre atmospheres and a spacious calm. These are not the sounds of Brass City, 70 years since their last proud boom. This is the sound of a single ghost explorer, reverberating off of factory ruins.

The Fatal Englishman

The Fatal Englishman – ‘Ravenglass’
eeOne of the more obscure and mysterious releases in the Bandcamp cannon is the debut LP of solo recording project The Fatal Englishman. Somewhat lo-fi in sound – perhaps purposely rough – and relying mainly on disintegrating guitars and ambient-driven menace, ‘Ravenglass’ is a concentrated leftfield examination of the shady, lost, brief paths trodden by the ghosts of men. What emerges between layers of strange rhythms and found sounds is a Space Age carnivale, a grave comedy debased by alien graces, an out-there melange of worn-out dirges and the groaning ruckus of minimalist dazed incantations for lost voices. The whole thing is quite fog-eyed and bizarre, and at a running time of thirty minutes the man behind the moniker knows when to call it quits. Biographically, there is next to nothing about him online. The tendency to elaborate obsessively on simple forms and in often chaotic ways is a characteristic of much outsider art. As Deborah Solomon has written about the artist Joseph Cornell: “The objects inside his boxes were not just random assortments of material but souvenirs of a quest, a chronicle of infatuations whose meaning was as complicatedly inward as a private journal.” In his unsettling collection ‘Ravenglass’, The Fatal Englishman shares his eroded but ineluctable music. The result is a surreal sense of being let in on an unhinged rock ‘n’ roll pagan ceremony.

Sound of Cobra

SQUADRA OMEGA – ‘Altri Occhi Ci Guardano’ 2LP
Other eyes look at us – the literal translation of „Altri Occhi Ci Guardano“, the new record by Squadra Omega – applies in many ways to its sound and aesthetic. The Italian collective takes on the form of a three-piece for the time being, resulting in a double album paving the road from inspiration to innovation.
Embarking on the trip that is this record means to enter a white room whose walls have a distinct grounding that evokes the ghosts of like-minded sonic adventurers. You can feel the influence of library music just as well as there are subtle nods to the greats of Italian film music – Morricone, Frizzi and so on. Nevertheless, the fresh white that rests on top of said grounding shines brighter – Squadra Omega prove yet again to have the lucky hand and right mindset to not let the music become a mere regurgitating of influences. The songs has the free spirit that needs to be deeply felt in order to move the listener, especially in these times where music is infinitely accessible. The trio defies any strict categorization by constantly shaking up their sound with a plethora of instruments and rhythms – nothing is purely tribute, everything is a necessity. „Altri Occhi Ci Guardano“ is an exercise in shifting perspective. Motifs steadily blend in with close relatives, expanding the scope of the music to a sphere that is tangible for everyone open to genuine musical exploration in what you could call the afterglow of rock and roll. Squadra Omega make a bold statement on what free thinking at the crossroads of rock’n’roll, jazz and psychedelia can sound and should feel like. Make sure to let the eyes take a look on you. Squadra Omega’s sonic rocket goes off to discover all worlds known and unknown! They kick out the jams like some early Sun City Girls playing a wild mix of ECM- style fusion jazz crossed with dusty Steppenwolf biker-rock or the bluesy psychedelic trips of Cream. And the magic carpet ride continues with some motorik beats a la Neu! and repetetive elements reminiscent of french progressive electronic pioneers like Pole. The „Historia De La Musica Rock“ is present, but the sounds go far beyond nostalgia. This is perfect to get stoned right now. FORMAT: 12” DOUBLE LP – 600 copies
 in co-production with Macina Dischi.
