Pan y Rosas Discos

?alos – ‘yomi, l’oscura terra dei morti’
about the artist: ?alos is musician/experimental performer stefania pedretti’s solo project that began in 2003. her performances blur the lines between performance art, experimental music, improvisation, video art and force the audience to actively participate. the feminine figure and its role in history and contemporary society is at the heart of her performances. about the album: ?alos’ third album for pan y rosas acts as a bridge between what ?alos was and what it is becoming. the first two songs are new versions of old songs; re-played and resung in a way that is closer to ?alos’ live sound. her voice is more aggressive and the guitar more abrasive. the third song, panas, will appear again on ?alos’ next album, era, but it appears here remixed by kawabata makoto of acid mother temple who transferred ?alos’ original recording to an analogue tape and then added layers of his own guitar, tambura, and sitar to it. yomi, l’oscura terra dei morti was originally released by bar la muerte records in 2010. this is the third of three ?alos reissues.

ConSouling Sounds

Alkerdeel/A Den Of Robbers – ‘CM Kamp 1996/Horion Jugend’ LP
Alkerdeel (b) is back, and goes way back. The material of the first side of this split dates from the ‘Luizig’ era. Recordings took place in Maldegem somewhere in 2006, in their garage, with a dictaphone. So you know what to expect: noisy drony black doom tunes that push the boundaries of the threshold of hearing. This winter, the Ghent area will surely shake on its foundations when these three previously unreleased tracks are finally discharged. After years of silence, A Den of Robbers (b) come back with a side of full on frenzy. This Ghent quartet still manages to destroy everything that comes in their way. Their unique filthy blend of grindcore, doom and sludge makes up for a noisy sludge assault. No less than eight tracks of aural madness are tightly fitted on glorious black wax. All music was intentionally mastered for vinyl by James Plotkin. This memorable split 12″ is limited to only 333 copies. Only 111 copies will be available through mailorder. The other copies will be sold exclusively at Alkerdeel and A Den of Robbers shows.

Blackest Rainbow

KAWABATA MAKOTO & ANLA COURTIS – ‘Live At Namba Bears’ LP £12
Acid Mothers leader and Reynols legend meet once again for a wild psych out explosion! Kawabata and Courtis previously worked together on 2006’s Kokura for Riot Season, here they return for a raging trip of psychedelic noise rock recorded in February 2011, in Osaka, Japan. Both Kawabata and Courtis are playing guitar, but with Anla bringing tapes and vocals to the mix and Makoto bow and effects. Namba Lightbeam, the first of two 20 minute pieces, opens with a eastern sounding drone sound, much like some of Kawabata’s solo work, it steadily builds into a torrent of slashing guitar riffs, eventually returning to a more minimal sound even with a more signature Acid Mothers guitar sound from Makoto at one point with zoned vocal drones from Anla. This continues onto side B with Inaudible Bears, with a distorted echoey haze of effects and riffs, layered over one another. This side continues to fluctuate between minimal riffs and blasts of noisier guitar destruction. Limited to 300 copies pressed on 180 gram heavyweight virgin vinyl, 100 copies of which are exclusive to direct mailorder customers pressed on Yellow splatter vinyl. Packaged in a very fitting insane sleeve featuring absolutely wild artwork, includes download coupon for the album as FLAC, MP3, WAV, or pretty much any other format you could desire.

BEN NASH – ‘The Mineral Victim’ LP £12
After a period of silence from Ben, he returned earlier this year with Oh Lordy Me (My Heart Is Wandering Again) for Blackest Rainbow, a record which saw him drop his guitar and create an entire LP using an iPad with the Tenori-on app. Perhaps an unexpected turn, but then this year has been a pretty interesting one for Ben, returning to playing live after a long hiatus, surprising people by playing live in Sheffield and London for separate sets with Mehdi and Solange from Natural Snow Buildings as a trio, and following that he has continued to record new material for a forthcoming new project with the french duo. The Mineral Victim, seems in many ways like a return to the more organic sound of Ben’s previous work, it’s not got the psych folk guitar sound of his debut The Seventh Goodbye LP, but it retains the more psychedelic drone aspects that some of the tracks had on that record. In many ways it pulls in aspects of all of Ben’s work, from his early more cosmic drone experiments and psychedelic excursions, to his recent collaborations with Ameziane and Gularte, which will hopefully see the light of day next year… Vinyl edition of only 250 copies pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl, 100 copies of which are exclusive to direct mailorder customers pressed on clear blue vinyl with white and grey splatter. Sleeve designed by Rob Lye of Chora. Includes download coupon for the album as FLAC, MP3, WAV, or pretty much any other format you could desire.

SS047 – KERÄNEN/LETTERA 22 – ‘Quicksilver logic/ekati’ 7″ 6€
Finnish artist Tommi Keränen deliver 4 minutes of blasting harsh noise a la Bats In The Attick era. Fierce movements and an insane composition which this time seem even more focused and compressed. Always in balance between noise and electroacustic with an unique proto-industrial feel. Cut at 45rpm. Edition of 100.

SS048 – DAVE PHILLIPS – ‘Abgrund’ LP 15€
For more than a decade Dave Phillips have traveled and played across the 3/4 of the whole planet and with a conscious point of view he have collected and recorded situations and suggestions that become the body of his work. Two compositions – one inspired by nô theatre – with a gloomy and dark mixture of field recordings, female voices, acoustic instruments and body sounds. “the fly buzzing, dogs barking. it ends with low, repetitive martial thumps and pigs screaming.”. SS049 – DRUG AGE – ‘Alphabet’ C30 5€
North of Italy meets the South in this collaboration between Matteo Castro and Francesco Tignola. A non-stop moving mass of degraded and gross harsh noise pasted with ugly collages of broken signals and metal junk. Edition of 60.

SS050 – EVERYDAY LONELINESS – ‘Omissions’ C50 5€
Simple and elegant the music of Jonhatan Borges’ project needs concentration, both to be played and listened. You’ll find yourself waiting, with the ear tense to discover a subtle change, a single touch that worth the whole record. Edition of 100.
