Sound of Cobra

LA PIRAMIDE DI SANGUE – ‘Sette’ LP
piramide“The bloody pyramid” – is a seven musician ensemble from Torino, Italy. The sound of the band is built on two guitars, two basses, one clarinet, one synth, several effects, drums and percussions. There’s a rich history in psychedelic music, and we all know it. The best trip is always the one yet to be embarked upon. And each trip is different from the one before. You can’t jump into the same lysergic river twice. Don’t even try. Instead, prepare to be washed away by the sonic waves of „Sette“ – a sunbaked stoner trip for both the funky freshman and the psychedelic veteran. The latter may find traces of Santana’s „Caravanserai“ or Embryo’s „Reise“ when listening – as well as some strong Spiritual Jazz vibes, resembling the Phill Musra Group and the likes. It’s all there and much more. Limited Edition of 600 copies in 180gr.

Slobodan Kajkut – ‘The Art of Living Dies…’
god23116cf7Lack of musical material, minimalism but not for it’s purposes, patterns shifting in themselves… The Art of Living Dies… The piece is performed by Michael Moser, a cult figure in Austrian new music, whose work includes significant collaborations with bands like Polwechsel and Zeitkratzer and artist such as Bernhard Lang, Peter Ablinger, Fennesz, David Sylvian (Manafon)… Very slow, extremely static, the piece drives into one direction, without specific target but also without tendency to be contemplative. As with some previous pieces (check out GOD 13) its goal is the pure sense of nothingness…

BASS CLEF – ‘Raven Yr Own Worl’ 12″/DL
panact_bassclefsi03Ralph Cumbers’ debut Bass Clef 12″ for PAN sees the modular maestro stalking the ‘floor with typical, technical suss and cheeky UK humour. The ‘Raven Yr Own Worl’ EP is the latest and most sharply focussed in a golden streak of releases which have seen the London-based producer tour some of the bastions of British electronica, from Punch Drunk to Alter and Public Information, not to mention his own, cultishly adored Magic + Dreams label.Thru the prism of his favoured BugBrand Modular system – handmade by Bristol’s Tom Bugs – the four tracks of his ‘Raven Yr Own Worl’ EP patch a lattice of reference ports between Radiophonic experimentation, bedroom electronica, classic dub production techniques, and the not-so-distant spirits of halcyon UK rave music. His ‘Self-Perpetuating Fun Loop’ is razor-sharp acid funk in the tradition of Luke Vibert and the Rephlex hordes, and ‘Fluorescent City Shining City’ a deftly playful piece of acid dub strut recalling early Two Lone Swordsmen. His bleep techno tribute ‘Euphoric Nihilism’ is possibly the most intricate and evocative number, also flashing glimpses of ‘ardcore whistles and EBM in its tightly coiled matrix, whilst ‘Adventures Unventured, Tenderness Untendered’ is a blissed steppers’ kiss off meeting digi-dub and misty-eyed IDM at the warehouse. The effortless fluidity and charm of these tracks belies the skill, personality and intuitively dextrous approach of Bass Clef and his affinity with the machine. They’re timeless pieces of UK electronica carrying the weight of heritage forward. Bass Clef is due to tour in his Some Truths alias with Tom Bug, promising uniquely alien electronic soundscapes with each performance. The 12″ is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M. It is pressed on 140g white vinyl which itself is housed in a silk screened pvc sleeve with artwork by Kathryn Politis & Bill Kouligas.

HC091: Feast of the Epiphany – ‘Indivinity II’ C54 $8
feastofthecoverReissue b/w unreleased material. Indivinity II is an early full-length extract from Nick Podgurski’s flawless solo output. It backtracks and builds upon 80s’ production habits when gated reverb was newborn. Cultivating and fogging his sources with inorganic effects, Podgurski creates a live pumping heart. Expressive nerve-foliage of polyrhythm-units and percussion are mixed with vertiginous balance. Buried ambiance, melodies, and vocals are perfectly situated in the trance. The tracks are akin to sculpture, complete stereophonic pictures fully arrive, their lush topography moving from lucidity to blur, ears scanning and darting like eyes from sound to sound. The sum is complex, comely, and expressive. professionally duplicated – limited to 100 copies.

RON MORELLI – ‘periscope blues’ 12″
HOS-405_Dist_Preview-660x660Comprised of eight tracks in 30 min, Periscope Blues is the culmination of a mission gone wrong. Music for the stranded, the lost, those backed into a corner with nowhere to go, or maybe a reflection of sad individuals panicking on a tropical vacation gone awry. Somber yet very tense drifting off radar machine electronics that feel like a blistering sun beating down on decaying beach remains as time crawls on. That or the equivalent to working the grill summers at Jones Beach and stealing from the register just to get a little more…
