JJM3 – ‘The Expanse’
The Expanse employs the use of both realistic and synthetic sounds to create shifts in perception much akin to entering and exiting dreamlike states. For example, a field recording of a somewhat familiar environment will have an aspect magnified through processing and spacial emulation until it bears little resemblance to its actual form; taking on a droning alien personality, alongside morphing synth textures and instrumentation welling up from the depths. Inspiration from both the external nature of the world we live in and the boundless internal unknown play equal parts in this creative work.
