In june of 2013 russia passed a law banning the promotion of “non-traditional” sexual relations. the law is deliberately vague and groups of russian thugs have been taking advantage of the law’s passing to kidnap and torture gay, lesbian and transgendered people under the guise of “fighting pedophilia”. Despite heavy worldwide criticism, the international olympic committee has chosen not to address the human rights violations happening in advance of the 2014 games in Sochi, claiming that what’s happening in russia does not violate the olympic charter. they are choosing to protect their own financial interests over the basic human rights of the LGBT in Russia.
