So I started writing to other noise rockers and found that there are others that feel as strongly about Obama as we do. The site also invites anyone else that supports Obama and is a part of the underground music/art community to send in statements that we'll add.

Until moments ago confusing the cassette buried on my shelf with the Shawn Reed project Wet Hair, it’s quickly made sense why the pair of side-long tracks on the ‘Chimeric’ C20 show no signs of the garage punk from which the Night Person so vitally sustains. Indeed, Wet Fur is found on a very different creature – Reed Evan Rosenberg - one who quite literally begins where the other leaves off: leaping entirely into the noise realm (yes, hardly a pioneering venture at this point) sans a traditional musical jump-off of any sort, Rosenberg breaks for the busted oscillations of Rehberg and Menche in full, high-definition production. Scrapes and friction begin the first side with a constant circadian, cicadean chirp which, while in its initial moments approaches abrasive peaks, wears into a comfortable groove quite soon, dulling itself into a bassy hum which welcomes a new searing pitch in the thinned ether. The brutal suspension of this final note is broken by the chunky whir of the second side, a detuning apparatus over a motoric growl; the dread is compounding, changing subtly; then the signal is broken with rough-shod editing, leaving only crackles and a dry breath of stuffy air, in time recollected in a new, channel-skipping oscillation of fresh timbres to complete the loop. I'd say it's time for a long-player. Hand-painted tapes come in colorful, heavy stock J-card. Limited to 100 copies. (Obsolete Units cassette, $6 HERE)

Past an initial sixty seconds of winded distortion, “Disengaged” begins the third LP by Grouper, ‘Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill’: huge organ tones locked in kinetic step with a looping, reverb-laden vocal sequence which quickly dissipates like light strikes on the surface of a pond. Great Northwesterner Liz Harris is the body electric of Grouper, and as if plugged directly into her psyche the music emerges with the simple melodies of an unburdened spirit, echoing with hazy fragments of memory and a watercolor aesthetic. Though the influence of both 4AD shoegaze and dream pop (Lush, Belly), and Out-ward songwriters (Jeff Buckley, Christina Carter) is present in the overture, the uncanny re-Creation of these eternal sounds is fully realized in the subsequent “Heavy Water/I’d Rather Be Sleeping”, a saturated track of droning rhythms and jangly acoustic guitar, building quietly from Harris’ moans into an impossibly lucid and catchy chorus ala Hope Sandoval. Like the slow, spooky interventions of the Cocteau Twins – and not to mention the ethereal images of their namesake (an association also posited in the muted, baroque cover art) – something strangely familiar and traditional appears from each clouded pool of a song. Subtly doubling the singer’s voice, “Traveling Through a Sea” marries the collective lament of Mojave 3 to a percolating of rounded piano notes and a squeaky-spring of a guitar. In her barest appearance, “Fishing Bird” features the most forceful and unadulterated set of (still inscrutable) lyrics with an equally aggressive (always acoustic) guitar accompaniment over a field of wordless hum of the sort Pocahaunted builds their harmonies; by contrast, the late-arriving title-track features an almost total choral saturation, extending strands of faint vocals into a two and one-half minute apparition of quivering metal strings and a delicate crackle patina. Likewise, “Wind and Snow” make way for “Tidal Wave”, two bare tracks of howling vocals and minimal guitar-derived noises, a drone which in its glacial movement manages stunning lows of rich, earthen color while so easily given to the searing bright light of Harris’ vocal altitudes. And from this delicate erasure emerges final song “We’ve All Time to Sleep”, a perfectly fitted lullaby with clean guitar and narcoleptic voice fragments slowly twisting upward.
